The Need for Sleep

Sleep is a biological need that restores our physical and mental well-being. Lack of rest decreases our intellectual performance, abilities, mood, generating anxiety and bad mood. It decreases our immune system and our physical beauty, as well as favoring obesity.

WHY DO WE SLEEP?

There are no scientific studies in humans for obvious reasons, but we do know that a few days of complete sleep deprivation are enough for laboratory rats to experience weakness, skin sores, weight loss (despite eating more than enough) and finally death.

During sleep, our brain is dedicated to "pruning" the neural connections made during wakefulness, eliminating those that are not important, and reinforcing those that are. Dreams seem to be part of the process, a kind of simulator in which different responses, especially emotional ones, to the experiences acquired are tested.
The melatonin, also known as the clock hormone, secreted by the pineal gland, determines the period of wakefulness and sleep. it has low levels during the day and high levels at night, its segregation is stimulated by darkness. It is also related to the feeling of well-being, which is given by another hormone, serotonin. It also has antioxidant properties, blocking free radicals, improves the immune system, protecting us from diseases such as cancer or cardiovascular accidents.
In addition, recent studies attribute beneficial properties to it as an adjuvant to chemotherapy
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid, it is not synthesized in humans, which is why its contribution to the daily diet is so necessary. During the day this amino acid becomes serotonin and helps us to be active and happy, but in the absence of light it becomes melatonin.
The production of melatonin decreases with age, and if, in addition to this typical age decrease, a healthy life is not led with a good diet and exercise, sleep problems and mood worsens.
There are foods with melatonin, they will be your best companions for a good rest. Some of them are lean meat, chicken, salmon, bananas, pumpkin, milk, eggs, cheese, cereals.

Why do we think there are fewer hours in the day?

Schuman Waves

Low geothermal activity influences the production of melatonin. Dr. Schumman, based at the University of Munich, maintains that for thousands of years the Earth has rotated on its axis at 7.8hz per second). But starting in 1980 and gradually, in just six years it increased its rate to 12 hz.

Therefore, the day we measure in 24 hours is actually only 16 hours long. The frequency constitutes a kind of time, responsible for the biological balance, and the waves of our brain pulse at 7.8hz, so we are out of step.
Studies confirm that the current population walks much faster than in the past, we impose more tasks on ourselves than we can carry out, that is why at the end of the day we must relax, it is time to rest and take care of ourselves.
For all of the above, the correct choice of our rest equipment is of vital importance. Thus, our mattresses should improve the hours we sleep since they are being drastically reduced, to give more relevance to wakefulness, and take us more quickly to the REM phase, keeping us in it for as many hours as possible, to that while we sleep we are able to regenerate our entire body

THE REM PHASE
During sleep, the brain goes through 5 phases REM AND NON-REM .
The REM phase of an adult represents 20 to 25% of sleep, while in a baby it is 50%. We enter the first REM phase in the first few 90 minutes of sleep, lasting only about 10 minutes, being able to reach 1 hour in the last phase.
Most people during the REM phase present in a state of atony (temporary paralysis of the extremities). This means that the brain commands the spinal cord to paralyze the limbs to prevent possible injury during dream enactment.
REM sleep benefits memory, learning and mood.
The consequences of lack of sleep REM are, migraines, reduced abilities or coping mechanism (defensive response),
hence the importance of good quality sleep and a duration of between 7 and 9 hours.

EPILOGUE

If a good table is one where fruits and vegetables are always present, and an ideal sleeping environment is one that is free from noise and light, your ideal mattress will be the one that covers your specific needs.
